I was talking with a film writer friend about the power of storytelling. He said that it doesn't really change between fiction and non fiction. In any event, either type of story moves us when we'll written.
That rings true to me because I end up writing in many formats to make sense of things...sometimes it comes out as poetry and sometimes as an essay like this one :-)
Hugo said something along the lines: "la forme est le fond qui remonte à la surface". That is that the container / format is the main content that is bubbling up to the fore... So I think there is yet some forms that are more adequate than others, depending on the story being told
Excellent! The 1st step is the most important and like you rightly stated - "Be there. Listen. Acknowledge what the person is feeling without getting judgy."
WOW! It made a LOT of sense. Alas, in our over-polarized world (where each one of us thinks that she has a monopoly on deciding what is right and what is wrong for not just herself but also others around her) there seems to be an acute shortage of empathy. Thank you for writing this essay.
Thanks Shabnam! So very true. We’ve all stoped talking and think our purpose is to simply pass judgment. Apparently that’s even considered moral. I appreciate you reading and writing your thoughtful comment so much!!!
We tell ourselves stories in order to live. 💖

Same here!
Doesn’t that ring so true, dear Nicci?

Thanks so much Santosh for reading and writing to tell me! That's so important, hard as it might be.

Well said.
Well written as usual. I identify with listening and not become invested in your solutions for them. Sound advice!:)
Thanks Mona for reading and sharing. That is so true -- and so hard as well!
