Nice! I think I read this one before and the dialog she has at the end with herself and her aunt felt so real, almost as if you were telling about someone you knew. It touches upon many important themes of empathy but also of addiction and self-control. Thanks for sharing this Nicci!

"What kind of relationship could she have had with Aunt Jen over the last thirty years if she’d stopped holding on to her story and allowed Jen to tell her own?"

A profound question! We would all do well to ask it of ourselves regarding our own relationships, especially with those folks we consider to be wrong.

I thoroughly agree with you, Juliana. That point stuck out to me too. It's almost as if we're quickest to identify the salient points/faults in ourselves... We tend to get stuck in our world, our own issues, sooooo much, that we can't neutralise our viewpoint enough to GET what the other person is thinking, feeling or experiencing...

I fall victim to this more often than i like to admit 😔

and the stories we tell ourselves!!

Absolutely. I completely agree with this. Those stories really just give us permission to separate ourselves from people and ideas we are afraid of.

Wow… this is really powerful. It drew me in… I could feel the characters immediately. What talent to create depth in mere moments of storytelling. You should tell this one on stage.

Thanks, Barbara! It was a sweet and sad story. How much did those two lose?
